Central Judaica Database

The Muzeum Kresów Judaica collection is largely made up of religious items for home use (during Shabbat, Hanukkah, etc.), the most precious dating back to the late eighteenth century through the late nineteenth century, most of them made in Russia. The most important artifacts connected to Lubaczów are: a decorative griffin from the aron hakodesh of the Lubaczów synagogue (destroyed at the beginning of the Second World War) and a Torah with mantle, also from Lubaczów. The collection is completed by household equipment and synagogue decorations of unknown provenance, a number of documents written in the Hebrew alphabet as well as views of Lubaczów, showing the synagogue and figures of Jews. The collection also includes paintings and watercolors by Marian Kopf, an artist from Lubaczów, who documented the daily life of the local community during and right after the war. A valuable item in the collection is a portfolio of prints by Jewish artist Wilhelm Wachtel.
